OG Minecraft names

An OG name is a short, common English word that someone took early, like Dog or Stone. We sort words into three classes by how common and how short they are: top words, OG words and semi-OG.

On an account a top word gives 80 rarity points, an OG word 60 and a semi-OG word 35.

What counts as OG and semi-OG?

We measure how common a word is on the Zipf scale of a film-subtitle word list (SUBTLEX-US): 4.5 means about 32 times per million words, 3.5 about 3.2 times. The more common and the shorter, the higher the class.

Semi-OGrarer words from Zipf 2.5, inflected forms, long words, German words35CollectibleWandered, Meticulous

How many OG names are there?

Of the English words in our word data, the model rates 795 as top words, 5,404 as OG words and 22,788 as semi-OG. Whether a name is free, our checker does not check.

How rare are OG names?

Every word class has fixed points; within its class a name sits higher the shorter and more common it is, which only decides between two classes of the same rank. With an OG name alone an account already reaches a tier above Standard. How the name is rated.

  • Top word: 80 points (Rare)
  • OG word: 60 points (Rare)
  • Semi-OG: 35 points (Collectible)

Do capitals, digits or underscores matter?

Capitals do not change the class. A word with an underscore in front or a digit in place of a letter counts as a minor variant (12 points), for example _Shadow or Sh4dow. A word with digits after it, like Shadow7, is an everyday handle (3 points).
