Every MineCon cape is closed for good, so the count can only stay or grow by accounts that show their cape for the first time.

MineCon 2011, the first one, handed out in Las Vegas with the release of Minecraft 1.0. The older years have fewer owners and give more points; 2013, 2015 and 2016 lie close together, between 6,178 and 7,269 known owners.

Can you still get a MineCon cape?

No. On 12 May 2020 Mojang disabled every unredeemed MineCon code, and no owner has been added since. There was no MineCon in 2014, and from 2017 MineCon was a livestream without a Java cape.
